Abstract

CARRERA, juan; MENDEZ, Williams  and  RIVAS, Larry. Hydrologic modeling of sceneries for flood events in the Patanemo River’s overflow plain, Carabobo state, Venezuela . Revista de Investigación [online]. 2013, vol.37, n.80, pp.245-268. ISSN 1010-2914.

The Patanemo River’s overflow plain located in the coastal margin of the Carabobo State is affected by floods. It is necessary to develop a hydrological modelling of flood scenaries in this area, to identify extreme conditions  under  which  these  events  occur.  The  methodology  included the  analysis  of  rainfall  data  and  maximum  annual  sheets  of  rain,  and the estimation of hydrological response’s parameters through out use of informatic tools and deterministic models. The times of concentration of the catchments estimated are very short, with stationary periods of rainfall definite well, and peak discharges estimated for return periods between 2 and 100 years from 6,6 m3/s up to 475 m3/s. The Patanemo River’s catchment presents conditions that favor the genesis of flash-floods in its tributaries, which it must be considered to define territorial management plans and / or of community risk local management.
