MARCANO GODOY, Keiber Alberto y DELVASTO ANGARITA, Pedro Luis. Quantification of the metals Ni, Cd, Zn, Mn, Fe and Co in leachates during degradation of three types of used commercial batteries (alkaline, Ni-Cd AND Ni-MH). Revista de Investigación [online]. 2015, vol.39, n.86, pp.131-156. ISSN 1010-2914.
The research was aimed quantify the concentration of the metals Ni, Cd, Zn, Mn, Fe and Co in leachates from soil columns into which were placed spent batteries for five months of irrigation, in order to analyze impact on the environment and public health, as a consequence of the disposal of the same. Samples of alkaline, Ni-Cd and Ni-MH trademark, AA sizes, available in the Venezuelan market were used. Two conditions were evaluated, the batteries closed (natural degradation) and open mechanically (accelerated degradation) buried in the soil column. The results, exceeded the levels of Fe (for the three types of batteries) and Ni (for Ni-Cd) in terms of concentration (mg/L), allowable by Venezuelan environmental regulations, remaining values of Co, Zn, Mn and Cd, below allowable limits.
