DE TEJADA LAGONELL, Miren. Cognitive stimulation at home and reading competence of a school group from Great Caracas: a correlational Study. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2015, vol.39, n.86, pp.171-190. ISSN 1010-2914.
The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between reading narrative text skills and cognitive stimulation in a group of students from Great Caracas. The sociocultural approach (Vigotsky, 1931/1996; 1934/1995) was adopted. It was used a transversalcorrelational descriptive. A non-probabilistic intentional sample of 301 students from Basic Education was selected. The instruments used were made Ad Hoc. The data descriptive analysis revealed that the cognitive stimulation the group received at home was of medium intensity. The Pearson Correlation Coefficient showed a low but significant correlation between reading skills and writing stimulation. It is concluded that these students get at home a set of experiences that promotes their cognitive development as well as their reading skills; nevertheless, it is recommended that the mediators be aware of the developmental processes they are involved in order to guide them intentionally toward their potential zone.
