MONDRAGON, Irene y CONTRERAS PENA, Yasmin. Use of insect Tenebrio molitor, Tribolium castaneum and Palembus dermestoides (Coleoptera,Tenebrionidae), as a resource in the teaching of natural science. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2015, vol.39, n.86, pp.255-270. ISSN 1010-2914.
Entomology becomes a practical, interesting and appropriate tool to teach natural sciences, either by applying traditional learning strategies; the methodology science, technology and society, or the innovative information and communication techniques that today the students handle. The selection of Entomological topics of interest in public health, agriculture, recreation, statistics, physics, chemistry, aesthetics, among others, is highly motivating to guide student learning science, and leads to a change of behavior in relation to insects. If those topics are related to the environmental and social reality of the learner, their region or its country, better still. In this work we propose seven hands-on activities of applied Entomology, already tested with groups of students of primary and secondary education andhigh school using three of the species of beetles of the family Tenebrionidae, attacking grains and stored products.
