DE OLIVEIRA FIGUEIREDO, Gustavo. Participative Action Research: a option for Social Epistemology in Latin America. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2015, vol.39, n.86, pp.271-290. ISSN 1010-2914.
This article presents the evolution of epistemological paradigm of social research and the relevance of the construction of autonomous thinking in Latin America. We discussed the possibility of using Participative Action Research (PAR) in social researches. For this, we present the origins of the PAR in the field of critical paradigm supported by the articulation of ideas from Orlando Fals Borda and Paulo Freire. It also discusses the contributions of soft systems methodology for the construction of an consistent epistemological reference with a high standard of scientific rigor. We conducted an analysis in order to extract models and key-ideas to conduct researches focused on the transforming practice. Finally, we conclude that the PAR itself is an alternative to the classic model of traditional science applied in developed countries and highlight the differences that make this as a good epistemological way to be followed by social research in Latin America.
