Research in order to design and evaluate a lab for teaching meiosis was drawn. It involved a literature review as well as the design and development of the proposal entitled “Cytogenetic study of meiosis in triatomine bugs”, it was divided into three pedagogical moments: theoretical introduction, content procedural and attitudinal content; its purpose focused on discussing cytogenetic aspects of meiosis and the particularities of holocentric chromosomes. The lab achieved a cytogenetic protocol to adapt teaching laboratory of genetics, reassessing this technique as a tool for teaching and learning of genetic concepts. The evaluation showed a positive assessment on the structure of the meiosis practice and thoughtful views on the importance of triatomine insects as vectors of Chagas disease.
