MONTILLA PACHECO, Argenis de Jesús; REYES RIVERO, Ana Cecilia y AGUERO CORZO, Eucaris. Analysis of Deforestation in Forest Ecosystems of the Pacoche Wildlife Refuge, Manabí Manta, Ecuador. Revista de Investigación [online]. 2017, vol.41, n.92, pp.74-94. ISSN 1010-2914.
The Ministry of the Environment of Ecuador promotes actions to conserve forests in Protected Areas. To this end, he created the Marine Wildlife and Marine Refuge Pacoche in the province of Manabí. This is the seat of forests, currently degraded by anthropic influence. The objective of the work was to analyze with applications of Geographic Information Systems, the changes of forest cover; for this purpose, digitized layers were used from Landsat and Rapideye images for three periods, 1990- 2000, 2000-2008 and 2008-2014. The results show that between 2008 and 2014 the forest area decreased by deforestation by 6.5%, from 3,047.5 to 2,850.4 hectares. This decrease is attributed to grazing, agriculture and human occupation, and it is concluded that the deterioration of the forest was significant, since for the indicated period the rate of deforestation was 0.9%, higher than that of Ecuador, which was 0.37 % for the same period.
Palabras clave : Deciduous and semi-deciduous forests; deforestation; land use change.
