Resumen
SALAZAR, Leonor y BATISTA, Judith. Hacia la consolidación de un enfoque ecléctico en la enseñanza de idiomas extranjeros. Paradìgma [online]. 2005, vol.26, n.1, pp.55-88. ISSN 1011-2251.
This research intends to provide a theoretical-methodological framework aimed at comprising basic aspects of foreign language learning under an eclectic teaching approach. Due to the variety of teaching approaches assumed throughout time, a thorough and systematic review of the literature was carried out. A set of specialized documents on theoretical issues that justify the implementation of an eclectic approach towards Foreign Language Teaching (FLT) was analyzed. This methodological procedure suits the descriptive-documental perspective adopted to achieve the objective. Concrete teaching situations that evidence the effective use of classroom methodologies derived from different theoretical approaches for FLT are discussed. Such discussion highlights the utilitarian features that those pedagogical procedures still have. Based on both the analyses and the discussion, a set of guidelines focused on promoting proper decision-making for the creative implementation of an eclectic approach within current FLT contexts is proposed. The main conclusion is that the implementation of an eclectic methodology for FLT seems to be an educational trend that fits into this contemporary society characterized by a growing social complexity, heterogeneity, knowledge diversity and plurality.
