This research paper has as its main objective to analyze the sociolinguistic conditions involved in the incorporation and use of neologisms by professors from the Venezuelan Andean region, in the academic discourse. The theoretical foundation supporting such analysis is based on Caravedo (1992), González (2001 y 2000), Villamizar (1998), Chela Flores (1998), Arrieta et al (2007) and Batista and Arrieta (2005) among others, who focus on aspects related to: the influence of sociolinguistic conditions, dialectal variations in general and those dealing with the Andean variety in particular, as well as the criteria applied in lexical productivity. This theoretical background permitted to explain the phonetologic, morphologic and syntactic procedures applied in the production of the 60 neologisms which represent the corpus, extracted from articles published in scientific journals written by university professors from the Venezuelan Andean region. Among the main conclusions derived from the analysis of the results attained, it is worth to mention the use of affixation with affective values of gradation and quantity, without considering, in the majority of cases, the combinatory rules of the Spanish language. This fact,   revealed through the present study, provides relevant sociolinguistic information which contributes to characterize the Andean dialectal variability in what the linguistic change processes it is concerned
