ROMERO, Luis and ALVIAREZ, Leyda. The determination of speech in the shaping of identities: Voseo from Zulia. Paradígma [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.1, pp.123-138. ISSN 1011-2251.
The present research is to clarify the determination of speech in the formation of identities, specifically the voseo from Zulia. The research objectives were: (a) To describe the use of vos in the shaping of identities in adolescents from Zulia state. (B) To identify the use of vos in middle class adolescents from Zulia state. (C) To identify the use of voseo by their parents. The sample consisted of 32 informants in the area of La Virginia, they were all students from Colegio Bellas Artes. 16 of the informants were male and 16 female. The analysis of the results leads to the conclusion that the dialect from Zulia state is an important component within their identity processes in the middle class adolescent , but a distance is marked by the female informants. Representatives tend to avoid voseo both at home and at work, but recognize that the dialect from Zulia is one of the most relevant identity elements.
