Abstract
MOGOLLON MARTINEZ, Yraima Camila and TORRES, Delci. Words used in prison: argot as means of expression used by the prisoners in uribana, Lara state. Paradígma [online]. 2013, vol.34, n.2, pp.73-91. ISSN 1011-2251.
This research deals with the lexis used by the prisoners in the Centro Penitenciario Uribana-Lara State. The aim of this study is to make a glossary based on the meaning of the words the prisoners used regularly. The theoretical foundations of this research are a field research (Pérez and Núñez, 1994), UPEL 2006 according to which is characterized as descriptive-explanatory (Hurtado, 2006) and the ethnographic approach since the mentioned vocabulary and its corresponding meaning were collected in this institutional prison. The sample was constituted by 25 prisoners chosen applying Balestrinis’criteria (2002). The data was collected through interviews, note taking and by cell phone. A total amount of 221 words were studied. The changes, restrictions and meaning generalizations studied expressed the prisoners’ feeling of privacy sense of identification with a group, security and control. Also this argot describes and analizes the collective imaginary the prisoners live and share.
