This paper presents a reflection on some elements of historical epistemology of the philosopher Gaston Bachelard to discuss aspects of teaching chemistry and chemistry teacher education. Based on dimensions on the production of scientific knowledge, it seeks to show how naive realism, substantialism and classical rationalism, which have historically been overcome and, however, are still present in the teaching of chemistry. In this perspective, the article presents some concepts of epistemology Bachelard, especially epistemological obstacles and inserts them into questions that have been recently discussed for teacher training and for teaching natural sciences, especially chemistry.
