This article discusses the proposal of a theoretical-practical course as a learning environment for the initial training of mathematics teachers for secondary education. This course was implemented in 2015 to a group of 9 senior students in the degree program in Mathematics Teaching at the University of Costa Rica. This type of training of mathematics teachers for secondary schools in Costa Rica is a new initiative not addressed within the current model of teacher training. It also raises the scope of the experience as well as its limitations.
