Professional practices constitute an important component of curriculum in university education; Accordingly, it is necessary to know in detail the scope and the way how it should be structured for implementation the training contribution expected. This study raised as a aims to analyse the contribution of this curriculum area in the consolidation of the profile of the Librarian and Archivist of the University of Zulia. And on the other hand, identify the stages that must be met for the adequate development of professional practices, as well as their dimensions. The methodology used was the documentary exploration of different postulates in educational and curriculum matters. It is concluded that the profile of graduates in this area of knowledge is highly fortified with the current structure of professional practices, because they lead to experiences that underpin knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for future performance. Phases of professional practice run set the adequate pursuit that necessary to achieve its purpose, considering all the times involved in its development. The dimensions of professional practice encompasses the different aspects involved in them, from the point of view of organizational, curricular, institutional and relational.
