This article presents the insertion of the idea Knowledge of tradition in the academic space from its development in the Grupo de Estudos da Complexidade - GRECOM / Natal, and its development over the past three decades. The idea that the ancient knowledge produced by humans are configured as a first science (LEVI-STRAUSS, 1976), was treated in Almeida (2010), group coordinator, from this, came the notions of knowledge tradition and intellectual of tradition. Constituting an anthropological cognitive reserve experience of humans, these comprehensions were throughout history, being relegated to the idea of a small knowledge, as popular wisdom. To exercise this dialogue this thematic center line, along the existence of Grecom, had a living laboratory located in the city of Assu / RN, more precisely, in Lagoa do Piató. The researches about tradition learning finds there the source that challenges the thinking of researchers. This research chose to use the method as a flexible and participatory strategy, built on a daily basis of the findings in an archeology of knowledge. As a result of this union between scientific knowledge and traditional knowledge of the Group's researchers lived in a true "knowledge exchange", which sets up an ecology of ideas and actions. In search of the Lagoa do Piató, the oldest, the knowledge of the lagoon fishermen, presented by the intellectual tradition, Francisco Lucas da Silva, offer a potential inventory for the development of research in the Group. After this, various materials have been developed using the Tradition knowledge to meditate about the production of knowledge and the things of the world: literature and academic productions, the Piató’s memory house Chico Lucas, the Mother Earth House and the extension project Shipyard of Knowledge are  good examples of this.
