GARCIA DAVILA, Dulce y FINOL, José Enrique. Critical Theory, Radio and Regional Identity: A Contribution to Theoretical Analysis. Revista de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales [online]. 2003, vol.19, n.42, pp.26-51. ISSN 1012-1587.
In this paper we make an analysis of the most important theories of what is usually called Critical Theory or Cultural Criticism, seen as a heterogeneous body of scientific propositions, that go from the well known Frankfurt school of thought to the most recent Socio-Semiotic theories, including contributions from numerous Latin American researchers, whose theories are extensively presented here. Theories are analyzed in the particular context of radio broadcasting communications, and also in the realm of regional identity, both of which are domains of this research. Methodological instruments for field research are also evaluated. According to the conclusions Critical Theory goes beyond the Marxist vision of the Frankfurt School, in particular in its first stage, including Klappers vision of communication.
Palabras clave : Critical theory; broadcast reception; regional identity; socio-semiotics.
