The objective of the research is to retrospectively evaluate the processes of education and research in Social Communication in Latin America, within the analytical framework of the crisis of social sciences and the role of universities in the face of scientific, technological and social changes. It is based on the concept of research evaluation that includes three phases: retrospective evaluation, process evaluation and prospective evaluation. Due to the fact that this report presents only a research advance, only one bibliographical and documentary research source is included which presents the antecedents to the retrospective evaluation in order to state the preliminary question. The results of theresearch will serve to propose a model of reference in curricular evaluation and to introduce changes in curriculum in Social Communication of the University of Zulia (Venezuela).
