The goal of this article is to analyze the contributions of epistemology to the daily practice of psychotherapy as a scientific discipline, taking into account two basic questions: how is the psychotherapeutic model constructed, and what types of relationships do this model have with epistemological postures. To focus on these issues, an epistemology of psychotherapy is elaborated and a review of psychotherapy as a scientific field is undertaken, including its object of study, its methods ant its most significant epistemological problems. Lastly, certain reflections are presented as to the issues that confront contemporary psychotherapy.
