ISSN 1012-1587.
The objective of this article is to interpret the representations of fishermen in relation to work. The population studied was the families of fishermen on the Island of Zapara, located at the mouth (entrance) of Lake Maracaibo, in Venezuela. The heuristic references used in the analysis are framed within the study of social representations. The methodological treatment employed is based on the techniques of analysis of social determinations, proposed by Verges (1987) and Fernandez (1998). The conclusions are that work is represented as a familiar business in which all members are useful and form part of the subsistence level structure.
