ALVIAREZ, Leyda; GUERREIRO, Yandira y SANCHEZ, Ana. The Use of Constructivist Strategies by Teachers of English for Specific Purposes. Revista de Ciencias Humanas y Sociales [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.47, pp.101-114. ISSN 1012-1587.
This research attempts to determine if the teaching strategies used by English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teachers at the Experimental Faculty of Sciences are framed within the constructivist principles of foreign language teaching. The research is based on a review of the literature that reflects theoretic-methodological changes in the ESP syllabus design based on behaviorism, cognitivism and constructivism. The research is descriptive and non-experimental, using a qualitative perspective. The data collection was done by semi-structured interviews, class observation and structured inquiries in order to evaluate programs and study guides. The results show that the strategies used reflect an underlying tendency towards an eclectic approach.
Palabras clave : English for Specific Purposes; behaviorism; cognitivism; constructivist strategies; eclectic approach.
