This essay attempts to show how the theory of social representations shares common elements with certains forms of realism. In this sense, different perspectives of social representations have been presented such as the work developed by Serge Moscovici and the Geneva school. The conclusion is that the idea of social representations is not contrary to the external realism of John Searle and the perspectivist realism of Ronald Giere.
