CHIRINOS, Adiana; FRANCO, Antonio  y  MOLERO DE CABEZA, Lourdes. Análisis semántico-pragmático de las caricaturas de Pedro León Zapata (Zapatazos)*. Opcion [online]. 2006, vol.22, n.49, pp.55-76. ISSN 1012-1587.

Abstract     The objective of this article is to characterize, from a semantic and pragmatic point of view, the editorial cartoons of Pedro León Zapata (Zapatazos) published in El Nacional newspaper, during the 2002-2003 Venezuelan national civic strike. The study is based on the theoretical postulates of Pottier (1992, 1993), Franco (2002, 2004), Molero (1985, 2001) and Van Dijk (1980, 1989). The research was exploratory-descriptive and the sample selection was made according to the intentional or opinion sampling method. From a semantic perspective, among the most important results we find the “over lexicalization” of the topics “marches and demonstrations, and oil strike”; in the pragmatic component we observed the use of the ”I” (first person) represented by the inclusive Us and the restrictive Us. To conclude, it may be affirmed that the Zapatazos respond to the communicative intention of the author: to reject governmental actions and the behavior of governmental officials, and to justify the actions of the opposition movement.

Palabras clave : Zapatazos; cartoons; national civil strike; semantic-pragmatic analysis.
