The objective of this article is to explore the National System of Science, Technology and Innovation in Venezuela. The study was of the documentary-bibliographical type. The article reviews the evolutional history of a system for science, technology and innovation on regional (Latin America) and national (Venezuela) levels. Conclusions are that Venezuela has developed a significant capacity for academic research, which has been translated into a national research system, but not for technological development and innovation.
