DURAN, Migdalia y RODRIGUEZ DE TORREALBA, Ángela. Constructing academic texts: use of the summary report in developing background for preliminary research . Opcion [online]. 2009, vol.25, n.60, pp.68-80. ISSN 1012-1587.
This research explains the use of the summary report and criticism to develop background for preliminary research. The work is descriptive. To apply the summary report, the model of Flower and Hayes (1981) was followed. Results showed that the summary report is an academic text that helps to deepen knowledge about the summarized topic, organize the background superstructure, build relevant ideas about the topic, paraphrase relevant information and influence subsequent preparation of the critical report or meta-critique. These types of text, reports, summaries and critical reports or meta-critiques, provide the experienced writer with prior argumentative skills to helping to create a competent and critical writer when building background for preliminary research.
Palabras clave : summary report; critical report; background.
