In this study about female participation in scientific and technological activities in Venezuela an analysis is made of the female presence in the power instances of the institutions in charge of research execution and management, either in positions of research coordination, scientific evaluation (of researchers, laboratories, projects), the elaboration of institutional strategies, positions of political responsibility in government or legislature, or administrative posts. In order to understand issues related to academic female scientists we include the study of higher education, distinguishing its undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels; and we also consider the hierarchy of the teaching staff and research. Despite advancements, the gender inequity is still observable in many areas of public endeavor.
