OTALORA MONTENEGRO, CRISTINA  e  MORA SALAS, LEONOR. La familia popular venezolana: el significado de la infidelidad en el contexto de la pobreza. CDC [online]. 2004, vol.21, n.55, pp.77-102. ISSN 1012-2508.

One of the aims of gender studies is to invite women and young people to talk about their life experiences. Another purpose is to decipher gender appropriate behavioral patterns that men and women learn, express, and above all carry over into action. The object of the present study is to analyze narratives by men and women that belong to an extended, modified family. The members of this family live in a disadvantaged area of Caracas. The constant comparisons method has been used. The themes and emergent categories of this analysis are indicative of the meanings adscribed to the notion of unfaithfulness within the social structure of this family. The women seem to show a hidden tolerance of infidelity and to associate it with the difficult conditions in which they live.

Palavras-chave : Gender; Extended family; Unfaithfulness.
