A segment of the politological doctrine holds that you cannot rightly talk about a party-system crisis in Latin America, but everyday facts prove this assertion false. As illustrated by the emblematic cases of Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina or Peru, the electoral scene shows great unsteadiness and uncertainty. The representation crisis points to the inconsistency of a historically weak State, reinforced as class apparatus during the neoliberal era, and new popular demands of economic, cultural, regulatory and political transformations. In this context, the question of the appropriate political tool reacquires relevance, specially in view of the Venezuelan proposal concerning the creation of a united party that will congregate the political and social forces commited to the change currently underway in the country.
