MIRES, Fernando. Política como religión. CDC [online]. 2010, vol.27, n.73, pp.1-30. ISSN 2443-468X.

From a theoretical confrontation with several authors -Hannah Arendt, Walter Benjamin, Carl Schmitt, Claude LeFort- the article approaches the relationship between religious belief and political thinking. Particularly in modern totalitarianisms and through the extreme ideologization of politics, a «State religion» has been established. A de-ideologización of the political practice would be the only alternative to politics being «used» as religion. This means accepting that «the religious» always plays a part in «the political», not as an inevitable evil however, but as a source of moral and spiritual inspiration. Without a religious supplement, politics ends up being an instrumental practice oriented to simple governance, evading its true meaning: recognition of the differences that separate us and settling them in a dialogical and non-violent way
