GARCIA-GUADILLA, María Pilar y MALLEN, Ana L. El movimiento estudiantil venezolano: narrativas, polarización social y públicos antagónicos. CDC [online]. 2010, vol.27, n.73, pp.71-95. ISSN 1012-2508.
The emergence of the Venezuelan student movement in the public sphere, protesting the government closing of the TV Chanel, RCTV, in May 2007 enriched with new values and discursive strategies the political conflict between groups in favor of President Chávez and the political opposition. In contrast to the latter, the students enter the public sphere accepting the legality and legitimacy of the government of Hugo Chávez, proposing a national reconciliation and addressing new publics beyond the opposition. In this article we analyze how the proposals of the student movement were affected by the narratives of the «existential struggle» that stimulated existing polarizing dynamics in the public sphere and contributed to the failure of the students demand for national reconciliation
