This article analyses the severe economic, social and political crises in Argentina between 1989-1991 (from Raúl Alfonsín’s government to Carlos Menem’s) and 2001-2002 (from Fernando de la Rua’s to Eduardo Duhalde’s), through the study of the intervention of major farming representatives. This sector, historically one of the most influential in the country, is represented by the traditional Sociedad Rural Argentina (SRA). The study focuses on the economic policy preferences of representatives of the sector, and on their alliances and conflicts with others business elite sectors in trying to have an effect in the direction of government economic policies. The period studied covers the peak and decadence of the economic model of financial development that took the special form of «Convertibility» in Argentina.
