FERNANDEZ CABRERA, Beatriz. Territorialidad, sujetos populares y nuevas resistencias A propósito de los comités de tierras urbanas Venezolanos. CDC [online]. 2012, vol.29, n.81, pp.49-78. ISSN 1012-2508.
In the urban mass settlements the process of building means plenty of effort and resistance, and the defense of the living space is a key factor in collective mobilization for social equality. In the last ten years, in Venezuela this phenomenon went from an uncoordinated, pinpointed, and sporadic confrontation by dwellers in squatter settlements to the beginning of a grassroots movement that demands the right of occupancy and legal ownership of the occupied land. Analysis of Urban Land Committees shows a move towards a sociopolitical management of the matter that accomplished a turn of the legal framework and got concrete benefits. It shows the deployment of a vital territoriality (defense of the occupied land), and the development of a policy that seeks to legitimize territorial rights and points to the formation of new resistances.
