The aim of this article is to undertake a review of the concepts of development, well-being and poverty in terms of their historical path and the way they interrelate according to different contexts and schools of thought. This journey begins with the first views on development, focused mainly on production and economic aspects of the society. Different perspectives introduce then new areas and dimensions in the notions of development and in the ways of thinking about well-being and poverty, both addressed here through the current social and human development perspectives. This review will show how those concepts became more multidimensional and complex views that allow more comprehensive approaches to these phenomena.
