In this article a recovery and revaluation of the main contributions and achievements of thought and Latin American social theory in order to identify the evolution, stages, progress, setbacks, challenges and impasses as well as the theoretical epistemology of science social partners in the region from the impact exerted by origin/reconfiguration/erosion over the development studies in redefining research agendas and over the efforts to build a critical social theory that is necessary to reposition the dominance of a ethnocentric thinking, economistic and individualistic that do not recaptures the historical specificity of Latin America. As main thesis arises that recovery and redefinition of development studies within the Latin American critical thought are relevant and decisive to the crisis of meaning expressed in contemporary societies, and to the deepening of underdevelopment.
