It describes the technical guidelines used to design the Wildlife Sanctuary Caves Paraguaná, Falcón State, Venezuela, aimed at providing protection for a set of caves or caverns that serve as refuges and breeding sites of colonies of insectivorous bats that play a key role in the ecology and socioeconomics of xeric environments in northern Venezuela and other neighboring regions. The figure includes four cores, each represented by a cave surrounded by a buffer zone of a square, two of these caves are located in the eastern sector of the Paraguaná peninsula and the rest on the western side. Discusses the main environmental aspects associated with the quiropterofauna inhabiting the Sanctuary (which based its Decree) and legal instruments that support the proposal and the socio-economic setting that characterizes the study area, in addition, it describes some procedures followed the incorporation of local participants in a public awareness and education program that served as a platform for the creation of the figure, presented in a technical paper that was submitted to the government agencies with jurisdiction in this matter.
