Resumen

MONTEZUMA M, Dayana E. Settlement of Seismic Risk Areas, Sucre State, Venezuela. Terra [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.42, pp.13-45. ISSN 1012-7089.

Venezuela is characterized by a high rate of microseismic (events of magnitude ≤ 3) and, according to FUNVISIS, Sucre state is the greatest threat area, located by the El Pilar Fault, which has been generating occurrences in cities such as Cumaná and Cariaco. Additionally, this state has physical socio-economical characteristics that manifest some degree of vulnerability to an event. Planning processes have included studies of risk as an important component in the planning, therefore, arises to determine the seismic risk areas of Sucre state. The method corresponds to a proposal that allows a comprehensive study linking physical and social aspects (threats, vulnerabilities) that can be used at different scales allowing modifications. Risk areas obtained are mainly linked with the places where found in the highest concentration of population, infrastructure and economic activities of paramount importance to the area, also where there have been significant events of magnitudes, which allows considering them to take decisions and propose measures to reduce potential losses and damages, both inside and outside the state of Sucre.

Palabras clave : Population; risk; threat; vulnerability; Sucre; earthquake.
