RAMON PUEBLA, Adonis M; SALINAS CHAVEZ, Eduardo y ACEVEDO RODRIGUEZ, Pedro. Settlement of Land Use Conflicts: Cauto Upper River Basin. Cuba. Terra [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.42, pp.47-71. ISSN 1012-7089.
In the upper basin of cauto river, there have been major changes in the use of land, regardless of their real potential and limitations for about two centuries, which, along with economic difficulties and lack of understanding of processes that are developed, have finished with many of the qualities and potentials of the landscapes. Therefore, the need of this study arose after the existing use conflicts with the fundamental purpose to characterize and assess the current state of landscapes in terms of land use conflicts. The methodology used for the study of such conflict arises from the mapping, analysis and interpretation of landscapes, combined with the methodology applied in Mexico by Palacio-Prieto and Sanchez (2004), for this type of treaty. It makes the lifting of the landscapes of the study area, discusses how these respond to the impact of human activity, evaluating their stability and vulnerability, then evaluates the potential of landscape units and the problems that can be created, or that they are already existing there, not only as a result of natural processes, but also to the existing socio-economical activities, as well as in the case they wanted to be implemented.
