SAEZ-SAEZ, Vidal; CUBEROS, David y BETHENCOURT, David. Regionalization of Dengue in the States of Lara and Falcón, Venezuela: Period of 2001-2007. Terra [online]. 2011, vol.27, n.42, pp.123-144. ISSN 1012-7089.
The aim of this study is to delineate the epidemiological risk areas of dengue in the Western Central region, particularly in the states of Lara and Falcón, period of 2001-2007. The area is defined by 34 municipalities and a characterization of the incidence of the disease. There was an analysis of environmental conditions (air temperature and altitude) and socioeconomics (basic services: refuse collection and availability of water for municipal activities, among others). With the use of indicators there were a spatialized areas of threat of the disease. With the population registers and services there were identified vulnerable areas to dengue. The results found that epidemiological risk is too high to spread of dengue throughout the region, particularly in major urban areas such as those for the center-south and north, which houses the city of Barquisimeto, Santa Ana de Coro and Punto Fijo. We conclude that the area is highly vulnerable to dengue and therefore should be strengthened basic services for the population, such as water supply for human consumption.
