LOPEZ RAMIREZ, Enrique; GARCIA JARQUIN, Brenda  y  GARCIA MONTALVO, Iván Antonio. Sociocultural Factors and Somatization: A Study of the ESS-R Revised Somatic Symptom Scale in Engineering Students. ESPACIO ABIERTO [online]. 2025, vol.34, n.1, pp.113-123.  Epub 30-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1315-0006.  https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.14510473.

College students frequently encounter mental health challenges that can manifest as physical symptoms, potentially impeding their academic performance. This study aimed to validate the Somatic Symptoms Scale (ESS-R), which consists of nine factors. However, we found that some items are not appropriate for the school-age population. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed to evaluate the factor structure of the instrument. For this analysis, we assessed the somatization scale in a sample of 467 engineering students. The results indicate that the questionnaire exhibits an internal consistency of .93. While the validated instrument for the Mexican population identified nine factors, our confirmatory factor analysis revealed only six factors. Overall, the questionnaire is deemed valid and reliable for the Mexican population

Palabras clave : Reliability; somatization; validatio.
