Resumen
TARDIVO, Giuliano y CANO, Eduardo Díaz. The great absentee in the classroom: the religious question in the universities of Madrid. ESPACIO ABIERTO [online]. 2025, vol.34, n.2, pp.28-50. Epub 12-Mayo-2025. ISSN 1315-0006. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15110035.
This paper aims to analyze the perception of university students in Madrid regarding religion and religious pluralism in their universities. We have delved into their religious feelings; whether religion has influenced their choice of university and, finally, whether they perceive that non-Catholic students are free to profess their credo. As the theoretical framework, the concept of post-secularization is critically used, as well as the ideas of authors like Beck, Introvigne, Hervieu-Léger, etc. The methodology used is a survey with closed questions and a final open-ended one. The tool was the Google Forms platform with answers of 141 students, mainly women, and of Social Sciences. The results show the almost total absence of religion in the classroom, excluding the presence of any Catholic association, as well as the acceptance of a pluralism that benefits, to a large extent, the main religion.
