Abstract
BERRIZBEITIA, Mariolga. Trypomastigote of trypanosoma cruzi excreted/secreted antigens (tesa) as useful tools for the diagnosis of chagas disease. Saber [online]. 2013, vol.25, n.4, pp.346-357. ISSN 1315-0162.
Chagas’ disease is a parasitic zoonosis caused by Trypanosoma (Schizotrypanum) cruzi and it is mainly transmitted through the bite of a vector, contaminated blood transfusion, vertically from mother to fetus, organ transplantation, laboratory accidents, and contaminated food by feces or urines from triatomine bugs. Until now there is no gold-standard test for the diagnosis of Chagas’ disease. Different protein fractions has been employed in the diagnostic assays, among them the excreted/secreted antigens from T. cruzi tripomastigotes (TESA) represent an excellent alternative for Chagas disease diagnosis due to the high sensitivity and specificity of TESA. Some proteins of TESA are classified as transialidases that are responsible of T. cruzi penetration to host cells. These antigens stimulate B-cell response in individuals with acute and chronic Chagas´ disease.
Keywords : Kinetoplastida; Trypanosomatidae; serological assays.
