Resumen

VIDALINA MATA, Yesenia. Influence of organizational culture on knowledge management at the Universidad de Oriente, Nueva Esparta campus. Saber [online]. 2013, vol.25, n.4, pp.449-462. ISSN 1315-0162.

Universities have a big challenge in the current Society of Knowledge. Ortiz (2008) expresses that universities are generating and leading the creation of knowledge, a process in which their professors/researchers are the fundamental basis. Hence, the management of knowledge contributes significantly in the strengthening of organizations whose central axis is the organization culture which is expressed by its members in terms of their values, customs, beliefs, ideas, feelings, habits and wills. For these reasons, this study intends to analyze the organizational culture for the effective implementation of the knowledge management in the Universidad de Oriente, Nueva Esparta Campus (UDO-NE). This study is based on a quantitative method, supported in two theories: that of Schein (1998), referred to organizational culture and the Nonaka and Takeuchi’s theory (1995), referring to the management of knowledge. It is featured by a non-experimental design, transactional type and a causal / correlational level research. The population consisted of a probabilistic sample of one hundred and fifty-eight (158) UDO-NE professors using a stratified sampling technique and simple random method. The instrument used was the questionnaire. It was determined that the cognitive levels of organizational culture affect significantly and positively the knowledge management carried out by the University professors in the UDO- NE, so it is necessary to assume management changes in order to encourage the culture which empowers the generation of knowledge that occurs in the university nowadays.
