MOSQUERA, Onnelys; MAGO, Yelitza e CHINCHILLA, Oscar. Finding of genolopa ampullacea linton, 1910 (digenea: monorchiidae, monorchiinae) in haemulon bonariense cuvier, 1830 from mochima bay, sucre State, Venezuela. Saber [online]. 2014, vol.26, n.2, pp.121-126. ISSN 1315-0162.
Numerous digenetic trematodes were found in the intestine and intestinal caeca of seven specimens of stripped grunt Haemulon bonariense (Haemulidae), captured in Mochima Bay. These parasites were washed in saline solution (0.75%), heat-killed and fixed in Bouin solution, stained with acetocarmine of Semichon and permanently mounted in Canada balsam. The presence in the evaluated specimens of a trilobed ovary, a female terminal organ bipartite and spinous in the distal portion, besides of having genital atrium and spiny cirri, allowed its identification as Genolopa ampullacea Linton, 1910. A comparative table of morphological and morphometric characteristics is presented and other data of this species. Its presence in haemulids further confirms the high specificity of this monorchiid for fish belonging to this family and this is the first description of this species in Venezuela.
