JAUREGUI, Damelis  e  TORRES, Stalin. Blade leaf anatomy of prevalent tree species in nicolasito experimental station, Guárico state, Venezuela. Saber [online]. 2014, vol.26, n.4, pp.373-384. ISSN 1315-0162.

In this study, the blade leaf anatomy is characterized from eight tree species that predominate in the Nicolasito Experimental Station of the Agronomy Faculty of the Venezuela Central University, which distinguish different plant communities present in the station, such as: Congriales, Quereberales and Saladillales. They are: Andira inermis, Bowdichia virgilioides, Byrsonima crassifolia, Caraipa llanorum, Couepia paraensis, Curatella americana, Duroia sprucei and Sweetia nitens. The objective of the research was to interpret the anatomical characteristics present in those species that facilitate their adaptation to the environmental conditions prevailing in the area. Leave samples were collected from those located at full exposure, from three individual trees by zone, and were fixed in FAA until processing. The latter was performed following classical techniques for the preparation of semi-permanent slides observable under the optical microscope. Some measurements and quantitative determinations, as well as histochemical tests were performed. The results reveal that these species showed mostly xeromorphic characteristic that allow them to adapt to the seasonal droughts and the influence of intense light. Among these features: thick cell wall and cuticle, compact mesophyll, a high proportion of palisade parenchyma, vascular bundles with schlerenchimatic extensions, among others.
