From the chromatographic fractionation of the alcoholic extract of Melochia villosa leaves, 9 fractions were obtained, from which only fractions C, D, E and F were assayed. Fraction C showed moderate antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a slight activity against Acinetobacter calcoaceticus, Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus, and slight antifungal activity against Mucor racemus. In the other hand, fraction D showed a high lethal activity, with an LC50 of 19.51 mg/mL. The presence of various fatty acids and certain esters, were identified by GC / MS from B1 subfraction, being hexadecanoic acid the major component. Meanwhile, the hexadecanoic acid was isolate from B2 subfraction, according to the evidence of 1H and 13C NMR spectra. The analysis of GC/MS of C2 subfraction revealed the presence of 6,10,14 - trimethyl-2- pentadecanone and the dibutyl ester of 1,2 -benzenedicarboxylic acid as majority compounds, while A6, C4 and D4 subfractions were analyzed GC /MS, showing the repetitive presence of many secondary metabolites found in the chromatograms of B1 and C2 subfractions.
