Abstract

DEVERA, Rodolfo; TUTAYA, Rosario  and  DEVERA VELASQUEZ, Rodolfo. Isolation of eggs and larvae of Toxocara spp. and other helminthes transmitted by soil in parks of a school from Ciudad Bolivar, state bolívar, Venezuela. Saber [online]. 2015, vol.27, n.2, pp.341-346. ISSN 1315-0162.

A study was conducted to determine the presence of Toxocara spp. and other helminthes in the playground of a private school in Ciudad Bolivar, Bolivar state, Venezuela. Samples of soil were taken from the playgrounds and were analyzed by Willis and spontaneous sedimentation techniques. A total of 16 soil samples (8 from the elementary school playground and 8 from the Kindergarten playground) was obtained, and in eight of them (50%) helminth eggs or larvae were observed. Along with the presence of Toxocara spp. in five samples (31.2%), a sample with hookworms (6.2%), another with Ascaris spp. (6.2%) and four (25%) with rhabditoides larvae of Strongyloides spp. were detected. In conclusion, there is a potential risk of transmission of infectious diseases caused by helminthes of animals due to the high percentage of Toxocara spp. in the soil of the playgrounds evaluated.
