PRIETO, ANTULIO; ACOSTA, JOSÉ y RUIZ, LILIA. POPULATIONAL ASPECTS OF Haemulon steindachneri (TELEOSTEI: HAEMULIDAE), FROM THE SOUTHWESTERN GULF OF CARIACO, VENEZUELA. . Saber [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.1, pp.165-170. ISSN 2343-6468.
Ecological aspects of a population of the fish Haemulon steindachneri from the southwestern Gulf of Cariaco were evaluated in bimonthly samplings between May 2004 and March 2005, using a beach seine. A total of 1219 individuals were captured and the length-weight relationship, the condition index and the length frequency distribution were determined. The total length frequency distribution was polymodal, with 91.95 % of fishes between 4.4 y 14.6 cm TL. The length-weight relationship W = 0,034Lt2,639 indicated a negative allometric growth pattern. The average condition factor was Kn = 1.03, pointing to a good physiological condition of the population evaluated. The abundance, evaluated through the CPUE, was low. Results indicates that the captured sample in the zone was mainly composed of juvenile fish.
