Matriarchy, according to Bachofen (1992/1861), describes a society which is held by the femenine, not as domain on the masculine, but as a manner of social organization, characterized by respect, brotherhood and wellbeing, where women hold a central role. In Nueva Esparta State, Venezuela, it is common to hear the affirmative statement that it is adjusted by a matriarchal society; likewise, we find out signals which could reveal supremacy of feminine and consequently expressions of matriarchy. This paper evaluated the matriarchal presence in Guayacán town, Gómez municipality, because this is a representative community of this phenomenon whose beginnings could be or could have occurred in Nueva Esparta State. This paper is a field study, inside in qualitative paradigm and make use of the interpretative approach. Its corpus is composed by recorded semi-structured interviews carried out to clue informants in the community of Guayacán. According to the results, in the Guayacán community there is evidence of characteristics proper of the matriarchal societies.
