Abstract

ESQUEDA, Luis Felipe; PERDOMO, Juan  and  RODRIGUEZ, Jesús. A case of bicephalic rattlesnake (Crotalus Linnaeus, 1758) for Venezuela. Saber [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.3, pp.626-630. ISSN 2343-6468.

Discrete are the documented records about bicephaly or dicephaly in South American snakes (~43), but yet without registration from Venezuelan viperids. Here it is reported for first time through photographic evidences this congenital malformation in a juvenile specimen of Crotalus durissus aff. vegrandis, a rattlesnake endemic from Venezuela and restricted to a small portion of the southeast arc of the country.

Keywords : Mutations; Serpentes; Viperidae; Crotalus durissus; Anzoátegui.
