VAZQUEZ-PARRA, JOSÉ e CAMPOS-RIVAS, CARLOS. INDIGENOUS EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: AN APPROACH FROM THE COLONIAL IMAGINARY AND THE ELSTERIAN THEORY. Saber [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.4, pp.828-837. ISSN 1315-0162.
Mexico is a multicultural country distinguished by the great ethnic richness that has been able to preserve over the last centuries. However, it seems that the reality experienced by indigenous peoples is very different from the context of other citizens at the moment of finding a job. The aim of this study was to establish the existence of indigenous employment discrimination in Mexico, due to the belief that they have less capacity to perform certain types of labor compared to other ethnic groups inhabiting the country. To a large extent, it was determined that the labor discrimination of indigenous people is not reliable, since it is usually supported on beliefs of educational inequality associated to the rural communities, in spite that many of them have been educated in urban institutions. In conclusion, it was identified that the argumentation of this type of discrimination is largely irrational, since it is based on beliefs that are inconsistent with reality, as well as it attempts against the dignity of this group of vulnerable people, underestimating historical factors of its culture.
