We studied retrospectively 52 patients aged under 20 years with diagnosis of bilateral tinea unguium in feet, corresponding 33 (63.5%) to females and 19 (36.5%) to males. The great number of cases were among the age group of 15 to 19 years. The only dermatophyte isolated was Trichophyton rubrum in the 63.5% of isolates. The other 36.5% were negative. The total of nails affected was of 143, predominating the first toe with the 36.4%. When we compare the results between culture and direct mycological exam, there is no discordance within techniques, although in some papers revised we found differences.
